There is no defensible single “typical” cost for a Bali wellness retreat. Current offers use fundamentally different price structures: room plus compulsory programme fee, a fixed multi-night package, a two-day programme without accommodation or a private quote after enquiry.
The useful number is the complete payable cost for your dates, room, programme and support needs. This guide uses dated provider-published examples to show why headline prices cannot be turned into a reliable Bali average.
Before comparing money, record the directory support level: Wellness hospitality, Facilitated wellness, Counselling or coaching, or Residential clinical care. Prices from different levels are not substitutes for one another, and “Counselling or coaching” still requires you to confirm which service is included.
Why we are not publishing a market range
A credible range requires comparable data. Bali’s retreat offers vary across:
- One day, a weekend, a week or a flexible stay.
- Per-person, per-room or group pricing.
- Accommodation included, excluded or charged separately.
- Shared room, private room or private villa.
- Group classes versus guaranteed individual sessions.
- Meals included fully, partly or not at all.
- Tax and service included or added as
++. - Airport transfer, excursions and equipment.
- Wellness-only support, coaching, counselling or clinical care.
- Fixed public price versus a personalised quote.
Mixing those offers produces a neat number that does not answer a real budgeting question. Bali Recovery therefore publishes dated examples and a comparison method—not a fabricated “budget, mid-range and luxury” scale.
Four current examples show the problem
These official pages were checked on 24 July 2026. They are examples of price structure, not recommendations, inspected services or a representative market sample.
| Provider-published example | Displayed price structure | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Bali Silent Retreat | Multiple room rates plus an automatically added IDR 850,000++ day pass per person per day | The page states 11% government tax and 7% service charge. Room prices use both per-person and per-room bases. |
| The Dukuh 6-day digital-detox journey | IDR 9,900,000 for 1 person or IDR 15,300,000 for 2 people | The page lists 5 nights, meals, yoga, daily spa treatments, activities and Wi-Fi. Tax and service treatment was not clear on the reviewed page; confirm the final total. |
| COMO Shambhala Estate Wellness Weekend | IDR 12,431,400 for a 2-day programme | Accommodation is excluded, and the page states an additional 21% government tax and service charge. |
| Desa Saya Deluxe Digital Detox | 3-, 5-, 7-, 10- and 14-night options, price on request | The page lists accommodation, meals, transfers, activities and treatments, but a complete price requires a quote. |
The two-day programme can display a higher headline price than a six-day package while excluding accommodation. The quiet-stay model can display an inexpensive room while automatically adding a per-person daily programme. That is why length and headline price alone are misleading.
Build the price in layers
1. Accommodation
Record:
- Number of nights.
- Per-person or per-room basis.
- Single supplement.
- Shared, private or villa room.
- Bathroom arrangement.
- Extra night before or after the programme.
- Early check-in or late check-out.
Do not assume the programme and room are one package.
2. Core programme
Ask which sessions are guaranteed for your dates:
- Group movement, meditation or workshops.
- Individual coaching, counselling or consultation.
- Massage, bodywork or spa treatment.
- Excursions or cultural activities.
- Equipment and facilities.
- Written plan or follow-up.
“Access to activities” may mean space is available, not that an individual session is included.
3. Food and daily living
Confirm:
- Breakfast only, half board or all meals.
- Arrival and departure-day meals.
- Snacks, drinks and drinking water.
- Dietary or allergy surcharge.
- Laundry.
- Local transport.
- Gratuities, if any.
If fasting or restrictive food is part of the programme, treat suitability as a health question, not a saving.
4. Tax and service
Ask the provider to replace ++ with an exact final amount. Current official examples use different additions; there is no safe universal percentage to apply.
Record:
- Government tax.
- Service charge.
- Whether either applies to accommodation, programme or both.
- Card, international-transfer or payment-platform fee.
- Which party absorbs intermediary bank charges.
5. Travel and risk
Budget for:
- Flights and flexible changes.
- Visa and current entry requirements.
- Airport transfer if excluded.
- Travel insurance, including medical evacuation.
- Medication documentation and legal supply.
- Extra accommodation after delay or illness.
- Activities not covered by insurance.
- Emergency transport or medical care.
Smartraveller advises comprehensive overseas medical and evacuation cover. Read exclusions yourself; the retreat cannot confirm what your insurer will pay.
6. Re-entry and aftercare
Ask whether follow-up is:
- Included or separately charged.
- Individual or group.
- Delivered by the same person.
- Available across your time zone.
- Fixed in duration and frequency.
- Conditional on completing the programme.
“Ongoing support” has no budget value until it becomes a schedule.
The complete quote request
Send this to every shortlisted provider:
Please provide the final payable total for [number] guest(s), [dates], [room type] and [programme]. Show the currency; accommodation; meals; guaranteed individual and group sessions; tax and service; transfers; required extras; optional extras; deposit and payment dates; cancellation, transfer and early-departure terms; and the cost of follow-up. Please also state how long this quote remains valid.
Ask the provider to identify the contracting entity and bank-account name. Save the final version with the programme and terms that applied when you paid.

Keep original currencies in the worksheet. If you also convert to AUD, USD, GBP or EUR, write the exchange rate and date so an apparent price change is not confused with a provider change.
Compare time as well as money
Useful calculations include:
- Total retreat cost per person.
- Accommodation cost per room-night.
- Programme cost after accommodation is separated.
- Guaranteed one-to-one professional time.
- Compulsory fee per person per day.
- Total unscheduled hours, if rest is the goal.
Do not reduce counselling or clinical care to a simple cost per session without checking qualifications and suitability. The calculation is a comparison aid, not a quality score.
Read deposit and cancellation terms as a cost
A lower headline price with a fully non-refundable deposit may create greater financial risk than a higher flexible option.
Find the written outcome when:
- You cancel at each deadline.
- The provider cancels.
- The minimum group is not reached.
- Dates, venue or lead facilitator change.
- Travel disruption delays arrival.
- A clinician advises against attendance.
- The retreat finds you unsuitable.
- Illness or emergency interrupts the stay.
- You leave or are asked to leave early.
- A natural event or government action prevents delivery.
Ask whether funds are refunded, transferred, held as credit or lost, and how long payment takes. Do not assume travel insurance covers every outcome.
Quote quality is part of programme quality
A good quote is:
- Dated.
- In one stated currency.
- Attached to exact dates, guests and room.
- Clear about tax and service.
- Specific about guaranteed sessions.
- Clear about required and optional extras.
- Paired with cancellation and change terms.
- Valid for a stated period.
- Issued by the entity taking payment.
A vague quote does not prove a poor retreat, but it creates avoidable risk. Ask until two readers would calculate the same total.
Does a higher price mean a better retreat?
No. Price can reflect land, design, privacy, room size, food, staff time, brand and amenities. It does not prove that a counsellor is qualified, a health claim is accurate or a programme suits you.
Resolve any support and safety requirement before comparing comfort. A lower-cost quiet stay may be ideal for rest. A higher price may be justified by genuine one-to-one professional time. An expensive schedule of spa treatments may still be the wrong service for someone needing clinical care.
Use the full retreat selection checklist alongside price. Do not let a discount turn an unsuitable programme into a suitable one.
A practical next step
Choose up to three retreats that match your goal and support level. Send the same complete-quote request, enter the answers into the worksheet and highlight every blank.
The best-value option is not automatically the cheapest. It is the one that meets the need, states its limits, gives you a reliable total and does not leave a critical question to be discovered after arrival.
Frequently asked questions
What is the typical cost of a wellness retreat in Bali?
Bali Recovery has not established a defensible typical price. Current programmes use non-comparable structures: room-only plus compulsory programme fees, multi-night packages, day programmes without accommodation and quote-only stays. Compare the complete cost for your dates and needs.
What does ++ mean on a Bali retreat price?
It means tax and service charges are added to the displayed amount, but the percentages can differ by provider. Ask for the final payable total in writing rather than assuming one standard uplift.
Does all-inclusive include accommodation and tax?
Not automatically. A current Bali programme can call itself a wellness experience while pricing accommodation separately, and another can separate room and compulsory day-pass charges. Ask for a line-by-line quote and final total.
Should I compare retreats by price per night?
Only after separating accommodation from the programme and recording individual sessions, meals, transfers, tax and required extras. A low nightly room rate plus a compulsory per-person programme fee is not comparable with a complete package.
Does a more expensive wellness retreat provide better care?
Price may buy privacy, property, staff time or amenities, but it does not prove suitability, professional qualifications, clinical quality or outcomes. Resolve support and safety requirements before comparing comfort and price.
