If someone is unconscious, having a seizure, struggling to breathe, severely confused, at immediate risk of self-harm or violence, or may have overdosed, call emergency medical services or go to the nearest emergency department now. Do not wait for a routine recovery enquiry or meeting.

Medical emergency: call 119

Indonesia's Ministry of Health identifies 119 as the national medical emergency number. The service can assess the call, provide initial guidance and connect with local emergency or ambulance resources.

If 119 does not connect promptly, ask someone nearby to call the closest hospital or take you to the nearest emergency department. Hotel, villa or venue staff may be able to explain the location clearly in Indonesian and help direct an ambulance.

Bali Public Safety Center

The Bali Provincial Health Office lists the province-level Public Safety Center number as 0361 251177. It also publishes separate numbers for several regencies and Denpasar. Check the official Bali emergency health directory for the current local listing.

Psychological crisis and suicidal thoughts

For psychological crisis support in Indonesia, the Ministry of Health lists 119 extension 8 and Healing119.id, which offers voice and WhatsApp access during its published operating hours.

If danger is immediate, do not rely only on a counselling line. Call 119, go to an emergency department, stay with the person where safe and remove access to obvious means of harm if this can be done without putting anyone else at risk.

Possible overdose

Treat suspected overdose as a medical emergency. Warning signs may include loss of consciousness, slow or irregular breathing, blue or grey lips, severe chest pain, seizure, extreme agitation or inability to wake the person.

Call 119, state what may have been taken, give the exact location and follow the operator's instructions. Do not leave the person alone. Do not make them vomit unless a medical professional instructs you to do so.

Severe withdrawal

Alcohol, benzodiazepine and some other withdrawal states can become dangerous. Confusion, hallucinations, seizure, severe shaking, very high agitation or rapidly worsening symptoms require urgent medical assessment.

Do not board a flight, travel across the island or attempt an unsupported detox when severe symptoms may be developing. Recovery coaching, a meeting or a residential programme that cannot provide the required medical care is not a substitute for emergency assessment.

What to tell the operator or hospital

  • Your exact location, including a map pin, villa or hotel name and nearby landmark.
  • What happened and when.
  • What alcohol, drugs or medication may be involved, if known.
  • Whether the person is conscious and breathing.
  • Any seizure, injury, pregnancy, major health condition or immediate danger.
  • A callback number and the language you can speak.
